Memorial

A collaboration between Eduardo Aquino, Johanne Sloane and Kathryn Walter, 1996
Commissioned by Concordia University for the Main Floor of the Henry F. Hall Building

Granite and aluminum tables commemorate four engineering professors who were killed at the University in 1993. Each table is functional and has a poetic text, contributed by invitation from each family of the deceased, engraved into the surface. Cast concrete blocks reflect the form of the site, the Hall building in miniature, and provide additional seating. Used as a meeting place for students, this project considers the idea of a memorial as a “living space.”
